I’m biased.

Tomorrow could be one of the biggest days in what will be our generation’s history. I talk about it too much already, so I promised I would keep this one brief (I lied). Also please don’t assume I’m jumping on some sort of endorsement bandwagon here, as I totally don’t care about endorsements outside of entertainment and I think it’s important for everyone to talk about this crap with everyone.

It is important that everyone makes time and goes to their polling place and sticks four fingers into the system that has been fucking up their lives for the past few years. The only way to beat this system is to use it; this is a basic fact of American civics.

I want to also note that it is particularly important for anyone under 25 to get the hell off of their lazy asses and just go to their polling places tomorrow and vote. Look up where it is, stop whining about it, and go do it. If you are an older person that cares about the horrors of government and interact with the 18-25s regularly, inspire them. Make it happen.

As for me, I will be representing my home state and the man whose birthday I stole next week (who understood the concept of inspiration as catalyst) by voting for the guy that announced his candidacy in the same place as some of the most eloquently backhanded speeches ever have been delivered.

I have been talking about this quite a lot over there on the twitter, but it’s not about buzzword bingo or hot shit trends or bandwagon bumblefuck. This is about reform that will relieve the poor of the rich’s burden (without empty leftist rhetoric promises). It is about technology not scaring off the elderly Washington geriatrics. It is about SERIOUSLY TECHNOLOGY IT’S THE FUTURE. It is about taking our country back from companies and stockholders by using it against itself. It is about diversity and proving to Negative Nancies™ that our country really has come this far.

I am a skeptic leaning far into the realm of cynicism. That cynicism is a result of the past seven years, and I don’t consider it permanent. I looked into this guy and the whole behind the scenes mess, and I said fuck libertarianism for a couple years if this will actually improve life. I genuinely think it will, and that is after excessive cynical review. I am much more surprised than I am proud to report that the state of Georgia agrees.

It is time to move on and up. This rutwalking can finally end with thinking positive, and I say that with the most respectably desperate tone possible. I already voted for this guy in Illinois, watched what he did after that, and now I’m going to vote for him again. Thank you for listening.

Supplemental: Here is a very detailed, objective assessment of Obama that I admire.

New shows on adult swim this week are insane.

Aqua Teen Hunger Force seems to be going on this odd journey with Carl and this new landlord guy, and the food people are nowhere to be found (they got cocooned I think). Carl is lured by the new neighbors, giving the episode the title “Sirens”. Lots of blood and innuendo.

Tim and Eric erupts into a complete civil war. Steve Brule does a wine tasting. Full-on classic level of blood and puke. Honestly, WHAT’S GOING TO HAPPEN?

I gave up the on the Boondocks a couple weeks ago. It was a very disappointing decision to have to make.

Squidbillies is inhumane, excessive, all over the place, on fire, genuinely unpredictable, and covered in hair. uh, all to save Rusty from dyslexia I think. Lots of blood and burns.

That Crook’d ‘Sipp was classically southernly uncool, but it’s a pretty interesting pilot with great art that I missed a while back.

All shows this week contain seriously fucking traumatic injuries. Lot of boobs.

Not the best week but certainly an odd theme. I am getting convinced almost completely that they do coordinate the creation of these shows to the small degree necessary for them to share overarching themes.

Today we’ll talking about how to import your bookmarks from browsers and convert your browsing methods to focus on the idea of remembering important things about the links instead of remembering where you put them. When you are considering hundreds of bookmarks, as many people have, this method is necessary for scaling and to prevent incredibly unnecessary limits.

The idea here is that using del.icio.us to do the work for you, it is possible to think about bookmarks, the internet, and navigation in a new way. The old way could be considered a rigid, organizational construct that is a leftover from a few decades of simple, common sense-based professional computing. This new way of approaching it is basically a by-product of the wholesale industry adoption of tagging, which is a construct of a lazy new generation really making computers do the work for them. The sad part is that this time laziness triumphs. Firefox makes it even easier.

If you don’t have a delicious account, go there and sign up, and then in the settings you will want to import or upload your current bookmarks. Don’t feel pressured; it took me about three years to do this.

From here, the flexibility of the system gets pretty insane. You can tag things however you want (for example, I didn’t tag anything old but tag everything new). This contrasts bookmarks in that there was only one place you could put one bookmark without duplicates. Now, you can have one bookmark with an endless amount of ways to organize and find it via infinite tags.

There’s more. You can subscribe to tags and get alerts from fairly specific triggers. You can add people to your network. You can add me and see what I mark. I watch people that I know have an eye for trends and the like. The great downfall of the networking on delicious is that right now (changing in 2.0) there is no simple way of inviting people or adding people; the only way is to visit their profile and hit add.

(Side note: you can bundle tags. This essentially means that you can tag tags. That drives me a little beyond the edge as it’s time to get less organized, not more!)

With all these benefits, a single notable negative trait, and the potential coming from the next version, not even I could continue to stubbornly insist on using browser-based, tagless, single-computer bookmarks. Thus, I recommend to others to join me in moving on (detailed usage video!).

Footnote: they’re called bookmarks, not favorites. That’s simple, settled, ancient terminology (and not even Microsoft can change it).

The Boondocks has become almost a frustratingly dumb show replicating finally in style and writing what it always replicated in visual design: shitty anime. This week was much, much better than the last, but the show is still very shallow. It’s a fun ripoff of the The Mighty Ducks ripping off The Bad News Bears or Slapshot or South Park or something.

Xavier’s not a big thinker this week, but it’s also not as gratuitously gratuitous. Some interesting ideas, but a lot of garbage that some people might accidentally take seriously.

The hook with Tim and Eric Awesome Show Great Job is that anything is fair game as long as it could possibly be considered funny by anyone. Or maybe it’s an inside joke. Or maybe it’s performance art (complete with everyday people performing in weird ways) blended into video art (complete with shitty vhs effects) and something worked. Steve Brule rules also. This week’s is about dolls but this clip isn’t (pull the timer to :50 to see what I’m saying):

video removed!

And Garth Marenghi was a weird, slight letdown.

I am amazed at his stickiness. He seems to attract the undercurrent need of prototypical-American freedom in people. He brings up fundamental American issues that effect everyone (and always have), has interesting and different things to say about the junk topics being portrayed as the platform, and can even handle serious modern issues. His statements are all theoretically solid. He interests people that aren’t interested in politics. The dude sounds like Thomas Jefferson.

I’m wondering what kind of insane explosion an internet movement can cause in a real live grassroots campaign.

It’s worth noting I still don’t consider anyone ready to receive votes. I could be convinced though.

Garth Marenghi’s main character acquires a baby man-eye that drives him a bit crazy.

Xavier finds himself in the care of seven babies after he steals them, and then solves the mystery of who stole them before he does a phoenix act.

Tim and Eric introduce their huge collection of cutting edge children, all conditioned and disciplined to be ready to active achievers in the next generation.

Boondocks hasn’t been getting along this season (unwatchable again this week), taking itself way the fuck too seriously.

Check the full Tom Goes to the Mayor episode this week entitled “Glass Eyes” to get an eyeful of retardedly serious nonsense.

Stupid serious is a serious phase of hilarity.

Once upon a time, rap was a hard-knocks-triumphant honor to have as a career; rap was a portrait of black, urban life overcome in America. Now, rap is winning the lottery and not even tipping your hat at the ghetto. DJ Shadow expressed it precisely with this song that explained the problem with hip hop in ‘96, “It’s the money.” (ALSO: Whatever happened to DJ Shadow? What a loss? I seriously am not sure)

I gave a bit of a rambling speech wondering how the generation currently coming of age will handle having grown up during a dudfucking rut in American culture. I was pretty tired but I think i got the idea out of my mouth (and subsequently the head for the night).

That’s the thought for today? How brainwashed was I by Mister Rogers? Anyway, I found out today that a huge reference I have made a few times was a reference to something that didn’t exist, so I responded to myself. Embarrassment aside, I’m trying to set myself straight today.

TIP: There’s a hole in my Mario Pants? TRAGEDY; AM I RIGHT? Yes.

We’ve gotten to the point where even people with shitty taste are tired of how crappy mass media has gotten this last decade. I also forgot to mention how I am seeing 2009 as being the beginning of a new era for a culture-starved and corporate-ruined country. Guess why.

News flash: Britney Spears is no Madonna.

(p.s. thank fucking god for wordpress’s autosave, but i lost all my tags)

(P.P.S. I don’t really like the band Priestess. Better make a Priestess tag just for safe keeping)

Oh and I broke down and got Guitar Hero III. I cry about it in an emovideo here.

I finished hard in about six hours straight though, failing only on Raining Blood, thus sacrificing my shit to SLAYER

Also it’s awesome, but I really explain it in the emovideo if you care about that kind of game, including some problems (I forgot to mention the almost unnoticeable ads), none of which really involved SLAYER

HATE THE NEW LOADING SCREEN AND THE LEAD SINGER HATE HATE HATE

Otherwise new art is good and all that mess. Some of the character exaggerations are for the best, and others aren’t. There’s surprises and disappointments (oh, my Judy, what did you do with your clothes!), and a hell of a lot of new crap to break your hands playing SLAYER

I cannot wait to stick all five fingers way up deep all gross into expert.

Dear real world,

You don’t understand. If you think there won’t be (or already isn’t) another site within a week, you don’t understand. All that has been removed from the situation is a single website that connects people. They don’t even know each other. The internet itself is the enemy here. It’s too big to be controlled, and is demanding you rethink the way you do many things. For example, I’ve become a bit of a skeptic, thanks in part to the internet. To further this example, let’s examine the situation skeptically.

DJ Rupture’s sensible take on it.

The current entertainment industry is angry. It’s mad that you damned kids outran it. It’s mad that it can’t control you anymore. It’s mad that the pocket padding (which has not even remotely slowed) doesn’t appear as threatened as it prefers. It’s mad that the enemy isn’t so easy to bully as the damned kids.

A Cleveland Police spokesman said: “This extremely lucrative and creative scheme consisted of a private file-sharing website being set up. Membership was by invitation only.”

Anyone that calls something torrent-related a scheme, and suggests that profit is involved, has no idea what they’re saying. Calling it a “pre-release” site is false propaganda as well. Even respectable news sources are regurgitating the same horseshit. Why lie about it if the law has been so blatantly violated?

“…was central to the illegal distribution of pre-release music online. This was not a case of friends sharing music for pleasure. This was a worldwide network that got hold of music they did not own the rights to and posted it online.”

What’s the difference in 2007? If you think that question is a joke, you’ve missed most of my point so far.

Almost every major news article I can find inaccurately describes not only the significance and frequency of early releases, but also the invitation structure, and often even the concepts behind how torrents work. They want everyone to think it was a profitable scheme; it wasn’t. They want everyone to think it was a malicious cult; it wasn’t. In other words, in brief, don’t believe what you’re hearing.

The law is the law…however, it still has yet to be broken. I’d explain this, but if you don’t believe me, you aren’t to be convinced anyway.
They used to have these things in the world called revolutions. A huge mob of people would get together with farm tools and take back their land. These damned kids don’t feel entitled; they just know the system is outdated bullshit. And now, all they’ve lost is a significant number of .torrent files. That’s all. They could literally turn around right this second and put the data on another torrent site, and when that site is down tomorrow, another will replace it, ad infinitum.

I like to call this the internet effect.

Please stop comparing this to Napster! Terrorism! Juxtaposition! Just want that in there for searches. And please, everyone, be a little more responsible and do some fucking reading before you lump another piece of shit on the media monolith. Keep sharing and thank you for listening. (even more links!)
